Iran treasure goes on show in UK before returning home

Ancient Iranian treasure is to return home after a few months' show at UK museum.

Ancient Iranian treasure is to return home after being displayed for a few months at a UK museum.

The Iranian Charge d'Affaires to London, Seyed Mohammad Hosseini Matin, recently announced that a sculptural relief from the Sassanid era will soon be returned to Iran after three months.

The smuggled Iranian carving was seized at a UK airport by a border patrol. It was a large fragment of a Sassanian rock relief that depicts an imposing male figure known as a Sassanian soldier.

This significant antiquity was originally discovered in one of the cities of Iran, before being smuggled out of the country.

During its display at the museum, the relief will be viewed by thousands of visitors worldwide, raising awareness of ancient Persian culture.

The return of the treasure will be celebrated with a special ceremony in Iran as it represents a significant and valuable cultural asset for Iran.
